Fixing My Roomate’s Electrical Lighter

It is candle season and our electrical lighter unfortunately broke, so it’s my time to shine. The main problem is that it won’t charge, so I took it apart to inspect potential problems.

Yes I will remember to take horizontal pictures next time:(

I checked for voltages at multiple places on the pcb but the battery was too dead for me to tell if something is wrong, so I decided to replace the type-C port.

LED is on when charged but it turns off as soon I unplug it

This unfortunately didn’t work, and I learned that the D in D- and D+ means data. Now the led is on when plugged in but the battery doesn’t seem to be charging, so I replaced the battery. And that didn’t work either, so Adi suggested that we reflow the solder on the main chip. I still can’t believe that worked.

Working!
