Machine Shop Project Showcase: Poker Table & Racing Sim Stand

This past week, the machine shop has been active. Alex Shub and Gerard Decunha have been using the machine shop to make some functional furniture. They are both work in progress, but once they finish, they’ll have their own dedicated posts showing them more in depth.

We’ll start by showcasing the poker table that Gerry is making. We had a large 4 foot plywood circle in the scrap pile that was the perfect foundation for his table. We attached some legs with wooden spacers to get the height he was after.

Gerry plans on adding some felt to the top and some 3D printed cup holders.

Alex was inspired by my racing sim at home, and went ahead and started buying components for his own. This is where he found some problems. Without having a dedicated stand for his wheel, he was forced to attach it to his table, which was impossible because the clamping system was not compatible. This drove him to come to M5 to create one out of wood. While he was at this, it was a good opportunity to also create a stand for his pedals, as his office chair rolls away when he presses the pedals.

As you can see, he is still in the beginning phase of creating this. He plans on having a vertical component added to mount the wheel to, simulating a stand like this:

As I said before, these are work in progress projects. I hope you will tune in to see their conclusion.

These are our 98th (Poker Table) and 99th (Sim Stand) projects in M5 for the 2026 academic year!
