M5 Newsletter: Fighting Procrastination

Dear reader,

Getting tasks done can be difficult, but SDP26 team 19 thinks they have a pretty good solution. I sat down with team members Shannon Petrik (pictured above on the left) and Billy Maurer (pictured above on the right) to talk more about the No-crastination Station.

“[out interactive scheduler] hangs up on your wall like an agenda. The main feature is an RFID tag which signifies a different task you need to complete.” says Billy.

The invention is simple to use. Take an RFID tag from the “Tag” section (see image below) and place it on the programmer. Then use your phone to give that RFID the task and the time left for that task. Place the tag back on the board and your task and time are on full display! Done with your task? Just press the “Done” button.

This device is meant to interact with all of your senses by incorporating colorful displays and sounds.

Now that the design is done it’s time to begin building and integrating. For now they are starting small with a single RFID reader, a breadboard-compatible OLED, a small speaker, and a timer system. The big challenge is trying to integrate all of these components together.

Additionally, there's the challenge of honing in the RFID technology. Team 19 needs to figure out the distance where the tags read at, so that they can design spacing of their readers.

The task list looks long, but team 19 is ready to take it on! It may take a lot of work, but I am certain that they can make our lives more organized one RFID tag at a time.
