Necessity is the mother of innovation
As Plato has found before us, if we as humans are forced to solve a problem, we will find a way to do it. A small need I had was the aglets falling off my boots. This small issue I had is to highlight how a certain mentality can open up every part of your life to improvements, no matter how small.
We have all faced this issue before, when the plastic thing on your shoelace falls off and now you need to go buy new laces. However this time I had the limitation of not having a car to easily go out and buy one, and no funds to go on amazon and get some delivered. Forced with this roadblock I turned to the largest supply of things on campus I know. There are so many things at M5 that arent limited to their only use case.
This time, I needed something to crimp onto the end of my shoelace, and what do we know crimps onto a string like object? A ferule!
So I found one that fit onto my shoelace and just connected them.
Here’s where the innovation comes in, I never tie my boots so I can slip them on and off very quickly and have more breathability, so some magic with this is the yellow collar. This small happy accident also prevents my laces from coming out of the eyelets so it really is better in every way. Cooler looking, more durable, more useful to my specific situation, and best of all I did it myself.
The key takeaway from this is to never take things as they are. lead a life that can use everything to the fullest.
