Teeny Tiny Teensy!

Almost everyone that works with embedded systems or just started learning microcontrollers knows the lineup of Arduino and other development boards. Let’s just say though, that you needed a much smaller form factor, without sacrificing performance and versatility of a larger board, that’s when the teensy lineup comes in!

More specifically the newest generation of teensy (4.0/4.1)! These boards have been serving some of the fastest core speeds (~600MHz) compared to other boards while only being 61×18mm! This gives teensy the unique edge of being incredibly versatile in almost any application with the right components. The only “drawback” of the teensy board is that it doesn’t have much built into it, which means every component that you would need for most projects would have to be soldered, jumped, or proto/breadboarded.

For example, my current project for Circuits and Code is to make a digital multi-effects pedal and I’m using the teensy to achieve this. In combination, I would also need an Audio Shield in order to generate audio signals into high quality stereo. Then, by utilizing Teensy’s very extensive audio library, I’ll be able to program my own modifications to any input signal. With both of these components I still have a lot of space to work with anything that I want to include to my project such as a display and potentiometers.

There will be more updates once I make progress with this project so keep your eyes out for the follow up post!

See you!
